Duties and Functions of Union Parishad

 

 

The activities of the Union Parishad have been mentioned in the Local Government (Union Parishad) Ordinance, 30, 31, 32 and 33 of 1983. The activities of the Union Parishad are divided into five parts. Union Parishad working in municipalities, police and security, revenue and administration, development and poverty eradication and justice in the union area.

Municipal activities

Local government (Union Parishad) Ordinance, 30 of 1983 has been mentioned in municipal work. Compulsory and optional functions of municipal activities are divided into two parts. However, in addition to these works, the government may direct all or certain union councils to perform different responsibilities. The government can also take charge of the Union Parishad through any other existing law. The compulsory work of the union council is 10 and the optional work is 38.

 

Compulsory activities

    Maintains law and order and helps the administration in this regard.
    Take steps for crime, disorder and smuggling.
    Activities like agriculture, plantation, fisheries and livestock, health, cottage industries, irrigation, communication etc.
    Extends family planning activities.
    Build local resources and ensure its use.
    Reserves of public property like roads, bridges, culverts, dams, canals, telephones, electricity etc.
    Review the development activities of other organizations at the union level and recommend it to the Upazila Executive Officer.
    Encourage people to use healthier latrines.
    Register for birth and death, blind, beggars and the sick.
    Manage all types of census.

Optional Functions

    Union Parishad arranges and maintains the highways and highways.
    Provision and maintenance of public places, open spaces, parks and playgrounds.
    Provide lighting to the public roads, highways and public places.
    Generally planting trees and protecting trees, especially in the public roads, highways and government places, and protecting it.

    Development of Rathaghat at village level is the responsibility of the union council. In order to take movement and generate goods in the market, Union Parishad creates and preserves roads, pools, culverts and reserves. To facilitate the movement of people, Union Parishad initiatives have been taken to arrange the electronic lights on the side of the roads.
